CARCare 1.3

I recently came upon an interesting piece of software. It's called CARCare 1.3. This is nice software for keeping track of your vehicles maintenance and other important pieces of information. On new cars if you have a problem and are just barely out of warranty, the chances of getting a good will repair depends on how well you took care of the car while it was in warranty. This is where documentation becomes very important. CARCare 1.3 will help you keep track of this maintenance and you can print it out to show a dealer that you did, indeed, maintain the vehicle.

I found it was easy to use and very nicely laid out. When you open the program you get a "Tip Of The Day" which I always find useful in learning new software. The main screen has four windows, Vehicles, Maintenance, Fuel and Payments and Fees. Under the options menu you can chose to use either the U.S. or metric measurment systems.

Along the top is the icon tool bar that, among other things, lets you print reports, graph your fuel economy, gives you maintenance rminders and maintain a trip log. You can also put pictures of your vehicle in for display. Nice if you're doing a restoration and want to keep a visual record of your progress.

Entering information is easy, just right click inside any one of the four windows and you get a menu that will let you add, edit or delete a record. There are other options as well, depending upon the window.

Along the bottom of the screen there is a running total for mantenance costs and fuel milage so you can see at a glance where you are.

The program will graph your fuel economy in miles per gallon (or Liters per 100 km) right on your screen. Click another button and look at the cost of fuel over the same period of time. The graphs enable you to see important trends. If you see a decline in fuel economy, that's a signal it might be time to take your car in for a check-up.

You can store you car's paint code, alarm code and ignition key code. You can record tire and wheel size, and loan details. There's a spot for insurance and registration info, and even auto emission stats. Included is a trip log and vehicle notepad also.

And since there is no limit on the number of vehicles you can enter, fleet managers can use it to keep records of fleet vehicles.

I've only scratched the surface of the many features this program offers. You can download a 30 day demo to try before you buy. Your car is one of the most expensive purchases you make, second only to your family home. Take care of it and you'll preserve its value and extend its life. This is something that I think most people will want to have to do just that.
