3.1 Liter V-6

Intake Manifold Replacement (Upper)

CAUTION: This engine uses a sequential multiport fuel injection system. Connect the injector connectors to their appropriate fuel injector or exhaust emissions and engine performance may be seriously affected.

Removal Procedure:

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air cleaner duct.
  3. Remove the accelerator control and cruise control cable from the throttle body.
  4. Remove the accelerator control cable bracket. Move the cable aside.
  1. Remove the thermostat bypass pipe clip nut from the upper intake manifold.
  2. Remove the automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe.
  3. Remove the power brake booster vacuum hose from the manifold.
  4. Remove the engine mount strut at the engine.
  5. Rotate the engine.
  6. Remove the electrical connectors from the ignition coil.
  7. Remove the ignition coil.
  8. Remove the generator front and rear braces.
  9. Remove the electrical connectors from the manifold.
  10. Remove all of the necessary vacuum hoses.
  11. Remove the MAP sensor.
  12. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve.
  1. Remove the upper intake manifold studs.
  2. Remove the upper intake manifold bolts.
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold.
  4. Remove the upper intake manifold gasket.
  5. Clean the gasket with degreaser.
  6. Clean the seal surfaces on the manifold with degreaser.

Installation Procedure:

  1. Install the upper intake manifold gasket.
  2. Install the upper intake manifold.
  3. Install the upper intake manifold studs
  4. Install the upper intake manifold bolts. Tighten the studs and bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) .
  5. Install the EGR valve.
  6. Install the MAP sensor.
  7. Install all of the necessary vacuum hoses.
  8. Install the electrical connectors to the manifold.
  9. Install the generator front and rear braces.
  10. Install the ignition coil. See Starting and Charging.
  11. Install the electrical connectors to the ignition coil.
  12. Rotate the engine.
  13. Install the engine mount struts at the engine.
  14. Install the power brake booster vacuum hose to the manifold.
  15. Install the automatic transaxle vacuum modulator pipe.
  16. Install the thermostat bypass clip nut to the upper intake manifold.
  17. Install the accelerator control cable bracket.
  18. Install the accelerator control and cruise control cable to the throttle body..
  19. Install the air cleaner duct.
  20. Connect the negative battery cable.
