Lights Not Working

  • One Tail Light Doesn't Work:
    You turn the headlights on, and one tail lamp doesn't light. It may seem to light when the brake pedal is applied or when the turn signals are activated. However, it does not come on when the headlights or the parking lights are turned on. All other lights seem to work fine.

    Possible causes:
    1. An electrical connector has come loose: Clean and tighten connectors.

    2. The connectors at that light are corroded: Clean and tighten connectors.

    3. The bulb is burned out: Replace bulb being sure to replace it with the correct type.

  • Brake Lights Don't Work:
    You press on the brake pedal, and none of the brake lights come on. All other lights seem to be working correctly.

    Possible causes:
    1. The brake light switch is bad: Replace brake light switch.

    2. An electrical connector has come loose: Clean and tighten connectors.

    3. The connectors at the brake lights are corroded: Clean and tighten connectors.

    4. The ground circuit for the brake lights is corroded or disconnected: Repair wiring. Clean and tighten connectors.

    5. There is a short or other problem in the wiring: Repair wiring.

    6. All of the brake light bulbs are burned out: It does happen on occasion. Replace brake light bulbs.

    7. The fuse for the brake lights is blown: Replace fuse.

  • One Brake Light Doesn't Work:

  • Brake Lights Stay On At All Times:
    The brake lights are on at all times, regardless if you are pressing down on the brake pedal or not. They may be on even when the ignition key is removed. All other lights seem to work fine.

    Possible causes:
    1. The brake switch is bad or needs adjustment: Adjust or replace brake light switch.

    2. The connector at the brake pedal switch is shorted: repair or replace connector.

  • Dash Lights Don't Come On:
    You turn the headlights on, but the dash lights don't come on. The dash light dimmer switch doesn't change anything. All other lights seem to be working correctly.

    Possible causes:
    1. The headlight switch is bad: Replace headlight switch.

    2. An electrical connector has come loose: Clean and tighten connectors.

    3. The connectors at the instrument panel are corroded or loose: Clean and tighten connectors.

    4. The ground circuit for the lights is corroded or disconnected: Repair wiring. Clean and tighten connectors.

    5. There is a short or other problem in the wiring: Repair wiring.

    6. All of the dash light bulbs are burned out: It does happen on occasion. Replace brake light bulbs.

    7. The fuse for the dash lights is blown: Replace fuse.
