Lights Not Working

  • Dome Or Map Light Stays On:
    No matter if the doors are closed or if you turn the dome light switch off, the dome light stays on.

    Possible causes:
    1. One of the door switches is bad: Replace door switch.

    2. There is a short in the wiring to a door switch: Repair wiring.

    3. The dome light switch (dash light dimmer switch) is bad: Replace dome light or dimmer switch.

  • Tail Lights Don't Work:
    You turn the headlights on, but the taillights don't come on. All other lights seem to be working correctly.

    Possible causes:
    1. The headlight switch is bad: Replace headlight switch.

    2. An electrical connector has come loose: An electrical connector has come loose: Clean and tighten connectors.

    3. The connectors at the taillights are corroded: Clean and tighten connectors.

    4. The ground circuit for the taillights is corroded or disconnected: The ground circuit for the lights is corroded or disconnected: Repair wiring. Clean and tighten connectors.

    5. There is a short or other problem in the wiring: Repair wiring.

    6. All of the tail light bulbs are burned out: It does happen on occasion. Replace brake light bulbs.

    7. The fuse for the taillights is blown: Replace fuse.

  • Back-Up Lights Do Not Work:
    Whenever you put the transmission in reverse, the car's back-up lights don't come on. You especially notice the problem at night when backing up. Without the lights, it is hard to see. Back-up lights are a safety feature; they not only give you some light for backing up, they also give warning to others that you are backing up.

    Possible causes:
    1. Bad reverse light switch: Replace reverse light switch.

    2. There is a broken or disconnected wire: Repair wiring. Clean and tighten connectors.

    3. The wrong type of bulb was installed in your back-up lights: Install correct type bulbs.

    4. All of your back-up lamps are burned out: It does happen on occasion. Replace brake light bulbs.

    5. The fuse is bad: Replace fuse.

  • Back-Up Lights Do Not Work All Of The Time:
    Sometimes when you put the transmission in reverse, the car's back-up lights don't come on. You especially notice the problem at night when backing up. Without the lights, it is hard to see.     1. There is a lot of corrosion on the reverse switch or at the electrical connectors to it: Repair wiring. Clean and tighten connectors.

    2. You have a loose wire somewhere in the electrical circuit: Repair wiring. Clean and tighten connectors.

    3. The wrong type of bulb was installed in your back-up lights: Install correct type bulbs.

  • Hazard Lights Do Not Work:
    The lights may come on, but they don't flash. All other electrical systems in the car seem to work fine.

    Possible causes:
    1. The hazard light flasher unit is bad: Replace flasher unit.

    2. There is a broken or disconnected wire: Repair wiring.

    3. The fuse or circuit breaker for the flashers is blown or bad: Replace fuse or circuit breaker.

    4. Your hazard light switch is bad: Replace hazard light switch.

    5. You have a bad turn signal switch: Replace turn signal switch.
