Lights Not Working

  • Brake Lights Stay On:
You notice that your brake lights are on at all times - even when the ignition key is off. No matter what you do, the lights stay on.

    Possible causes:
    1. Bad brake-light switch: Replace brake-light switch.

    2. The brake-light switch needs adjustment: Adjust brake-light switch.

    3. There is a loose or disconnected wire that is shorting out: Repair wiring.

  • The paint's finish seems to be dull:
As you look over your car, you see that the paint in some or all areas is dull, sort of boring. Even after washing the car, the finish is dull. You will probably find that if you wax the paint, it will be dull in a very short while.

    Possible causes:
    1. There is a build-up of old wax on the paint: Strip off old wax and re-wax.

    2. The paint is oxidized: Compound and buff. Re-wax.

    3. The paint is old and dull simply because it has been exposed to the sun and air: Repaint car.

  • The Paint Seems To Be Falling Off:
As you look over your car, you see that the paint in some or all areas is falling or flaking off. The problem may be in a few small areas like around the windows or wheels. The problem may also be on large areas like the trunk, hood, and/or roof.

    Possible causes:
    1. If the car has been repainted, the new paint didn't stick well to the old: Repaint car.

    2. Some cars in recent years were colored with something that approached paint but really wasn't. This coloring didn't last long and fell off: If you are the original owner, contact your dealership and see if the manufacturer had a recall campaign on the paint situation.

    Wiper Problems

  • Windshield Wipers Don't Work:
Everything is fine until it begins to rain. You turn on your wipers and nothing... The wipers won't work, and they didn't give you any warning.

    Possible causes:
    1. The wiper motor is burned out: Replace wiper motor.

    2. The windshield wiper circuit fuse is blown: Replace fuse.

    3. There is an electrical problem in the circuit: Repair wiring.

  • The Rear Glass Wiper Doesn't Work:
Everything is fine until you turn on your rear wipers, and they just don't come on. The windshield wipers work fine. The problem is just the back glass wiper.

    Possible causes:
    1. The rear wiper motor is burned out: Replace rear wiper motor.

    2. The rear wiper circuit fuse is blown: Replace fuse.

    3. The wiring to the back door and/or rear wiper motor is disconnected: Reconnect wiring.

    4. There is an electrical problem in the rear wiper circuit: Repair wiring.
